The 2014 Agribusiness™ – Accelerator Programme

Applications-closedThe GrowthAfrica Agribusiness 2014 is meant for capable, ambitious and ambitious entrepreneurs who are solving problems/gaps in the agricultural value chain with innovative products and services. Our focus is on high impact potential agriculture/agribusiness innovations that have a global focus, and articulate a high level of social value in their service or product offerings for farmers.

This is the 6th program launched by GrowthAfrica; 69 start-ups and over 110 entrepreneurs have successfully completed our programmes in the past two years. Our agribusiness accelerator is scheduled to start June 27, 2014 with a total of eight 2- day workshops, all of which fall on a Friday and Saturday to minimize the impact on the entrepreneurs day- to -day work and runs for 18 weeks. Subsequent engagement will include financial modelling sessions, office hours with mentors and direct engagement with industry players,key strategic partners for your start ups, and a final Venture Fair Day on November 6, 2014. Innovation to Impact - Accelerator Programme

12-15 start-ups will participate in the programme, which relies heavily on peer-to-peer support as well as mentor interaction during the process of launching the product/service into the market. Business and financial modelling are key components in understanding how best to go to market for these entrepreneurs. This programme is in partnership with Village Capital based out of the USA. Our first programme was a success that helped 18 start-ups and their entrepreneurs move their business and ideas a notch higher and raise investments that have changed the lives of many and also provided permanent employment opportunities to many more. The programme culminates with a pitch fest that showcases to potential investors the progress made so far. We are looking for start-ups operating in these verticals:

Affordable basic services for the BoP, agriculture and agriculture technology with a high level of social or environmental impact, education, energy/environmental financial services for low income populations, sustainability (e.g. green technology, clean technology, sustainable materials), water & sanitation, health care, urban challenges and mobile/ICT. Read more >>


Innovation to Impact – AgriTech

50 motivated and committed entrepreneurs will be accepted to participate in this 3 day Ideation Workshop. Supported and inspired by a team of 30 key representatives from the agricultural sector, experienced business executives, community, civil society leaders and academia, will collectively and through the course of the 3 days give life to and develop new ideas and solutions to the prevailing and persisting challenges the Kenyan agricultural sector faces.  The programme applies an Open Space approach guided by experienced facilitators, which will culminate with presentations of the agricultural solutions to the larger forum and through peer selection the 6 best ideas will be chosen. The ‘winning’ teams will have the opportunity to continuously work on maturing their ideas at GrowthAfrica’s ImpactLab® together with volunteer mentors and graduates from local and international universities and business schools. The AgriTech Ideation Workshop will accelerate the entrepreneurs’ agricultural business ideas and develop businesses that ideally will provide employment opportunities to many and solve the most pressing challenges in Agriculture. Idea to Innovation – Incubator Programme

This is a 16-week programme designed for that entrepreneur who is fed up of the status quo and has come up with a solution to solve some of the most pressing problems that many people in the African continent are facing. These 16 weeks will help you understand your target audience better, enable you build your actual product/service and go to market.
